In Loving Memory

Roy Wiley McCullar was born on October 26, 1917, in Albion, Oklahoma, to George and Bernie McCullar. He was the fifth-born of the six children that survived childhood. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Scappoose, Oregon, October 22, 2005. He had outlived all of his siblings.

He received his education in Oklahoma. Roy married his teenage sweetheart, Lena Gentry, in 1936, and together they had four children, Joyce, Dale, Calvin, and Jimmie. He made his living by farming the land, and then he worked in the oil fields as a roughneck. He gathered his family together and moved them from Oklahoma to Portland, Oregon, in 1947. He found work at the Oregon Steel Mills, where he was employed as a millwright until his retirement. Roy and Lena were married 37 years before Lena passed away in 1973. He later married Genevieve Coffman and they were married for 19 years, when he was widowed again in 1993.

Today would have been his 88th birthday. He loved to celebrate his birthday, and was proud of every year.

Roy was a gentle, feisty man, with his own opinions. During his lifetime he was known by many names, some of which were Little Roy, Pete, and Peek-Eye (to his great-grandchildren). In addition, he was a son, brother, cousin, husband, dad, grandpa, friend, and companion. He loved his family most of all. He had many hobbies and interests, but his favorite thing to do was to tell a story. He enjoyed his retirement social club, loved going to the Snake River where he caught catfish, and was an avid hunter. He could play dominoes with the best of them, and Pitch (High-5) was his card game of choice.

Survivors include his best friend and companion Geraldine Meyers, daughter and son-in-law Joyce and Richard Jones of Scappoose, son and daughter-in-law, Calvin McCullar and Dee Sorensen, of Warren, stepchildren, Judy and Larry Engstrom of Scappoose, Gary and Joan Wright of Lake Oswego, eight grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding Roy in death are his wife, Lena; his wife Gen; and two sons, Dale and Jim.
